Ceramic plates, disposable and melamine plates in comparison

My personal opinion about it is that melamine tableware is the right compromise between weight , safety , eco -sustainability, without sacrificing aesthetic value. Just think of two types of plates made with two as many different materials, ceramic plates and disposable plastic plates.

Ceramic plates

piatti in ceramicaThe ceramic plates are aesthetically very beautiful, but preferable in private homes , and now I’ll explain why.

The main disadvantages given by ceramic tableware in public environments such as schools , restaurants or canteens in general, concern the noise and the ease with which it is possible to break these items, and in environments such as school canteens it could be a risk factor for the safety of children.

In addition, another factor to take into account is the cost of replacing the crockery that break due to the greater fragility of the ceramic. As for the acoustics in school canteens, you will find dozens of articles that talk, for example, about how noise affects the behavior of children, and it is obvious that melamine dishes for catering are the best solution.

Disposable dishes

Comfortable, easy to handle, light and cheap, but rightly the European parliament has banned its use from 2021 . The following products will therefore be banned in the EU by 2021:

piatti monouso

  • disposable plastic cutlery (forks, knives, spoons and chopsticks)
  • disposable plastic plates
  • plastic straws
  • cotton buds made of plastic
  • plastic balloon sticks
  • oxy-degradable plastics, food containers and expanded polystyrene cups

We are in a historical moment where we are finally trying to speed up the processes for a more eco-sustainable world , so it is right that the sector mobilizes to search for new and more eco -sustainable materials , or find ways to reuse them, give them a second life.
